Classical Mechanics

A modern gentleman was listening to an adult contemporary radio station on his way to work and just (re)heard Faith Hill’s “This Kiss.” He  noticed for the first time that the chorus is as follows :

It’s centrifugal motion
It’s perpetual bliss
It’s that pivotal moment

This song is inoffensive except that it perpetuates the existence of a fictitious force, “centrifugal motion.” The scientifically accurate term for the phenomenon is centripetal force or motion. The latter would fit the song’s meter, so the lyric was written as it was due to ignorance rather than artistic license.

Of course, some people disagree with James Bond and Mr. Dappen, my physics teacher at Omaha's North High School.
