A modern gentleman highly recommends this sitcom on NBC.

This character-driven series is smart, wry and accessible, making it more similar to British comedies than American television shows based on them.

Last week Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) and Ben Wyatt (Adam Scott) finally professed their love for each other. And, like the wedding of April (Aubrey Plaza) and Andy (Chris Pratt), it was done without the Ross-and-Rachel buildup so typical of American series.

The moment was romantic without being saccharin. This was due in no small part to the presence of Ethel Beavers (Helen Slayton-Hughes), on whom a modern gentleman is currently crushing:
